An Advocate for the Devil, In Response to Faith and Morality

Perhaps it may be, though difficult to understand, that faith does not require, instruct, or establish ethics at all. Perhaps instead, ethics and the larger communal morality, are a byproduct of species survival; in other words, evolution.

We must ask ourselves, what morality (and subsequently ethics) is to begin to address why we have it and where it comes from. Putting aside the discussion about if a higher power exists, which of our world's multitude do and which of those would have blessed us with such beliefs, we come across the argument that morality comes from our higher state of consciousness, more of a philosophy that we collectively have as a result of our sense of identities and self-awareness.

Yet, we consider ourselves of a higher consciousness than dogs or cats, the fauna of the world and there are plenty of examples of animals acting within moral consideration. And though it could be said that animals can't possibly act morally, given even if they act within our boundaries of morals they would not themselves be aware of that, or think preemptively and consider right from wrong; I would say that humans did not always understand why we act the way we do... but we understood that to survive as a species, certain actions are beneficial, and those that are harmful. In essence, there is a creature within us called Life that causes us to act under the assumption of certain outcomes to maintain a sure existence.
