"To Be an Artist" poem

 To be an artist

Is to love the world

And hate the world

To dream 

And to inspire dream

It is to appeal to humanity

In others

And in ourselves

To create

To destroy

To be an artist 

Is to tread upon paths taken

But to wear different shoes

To leave a mark 

That is all our own

It is to share a story

Our story

To wear our souls

Upon our sleeves

To understand 

We stand alone

But we are not lonely

We hone a craft

To do these things

We speak by way of 

Word or shape

Or dance or song

We abandon that

Which is reality

So we may face it

With a fire that 

Burns like sunlight

To be an artist

Is to know being

To love it

And to hate it

To share stories told

And untold
